Osotua: The Concept

Osotua is a core Maasai value meaning a sacred bond, a lifeline of connection, trust, and mutual responsibility. It is not transactional and not bound by obligation. Rather, it reflects: generosity freely given, care shared in balance, responsibility for one another’s wellbeing, and a deep, lasting commitment to community and environment.

Nyumbu is committed to supporting the Promise Village Academy through the establishment of The Nyumbu Foundation, a dedicated fund that channels sustainable, culturally respectful, and community-centred support to the Maasai community of Simanjiro.

Promise Academy

Promise Village School is a mixed day and boarding school committed to providing inclusive, quality education to children from the surrounding community. The school currently has an enrolment of 283 students, 143 of whom are boarders accommodated in the school dormitory facilities.

Promise Village Academy Biogas Project

Empowering Maasai children through sustainable education:

Support Bio-Gas Digester Installation at Promise Village Academy in the heart of Tanzania’s Simanjiro region—just outside the remote Maasai village of Lenjani—stands Promise Village Academy, a beacon of hope for 281 Maasai children from Pre-K through 7th grade.

Privately funded and dedicated to breaking the cycle of generational poverty through quality education, the academy has grown significantly since opening its doors in 2019. Today, it boasts 10 classrooms, a 200-bed student dormitory, teacher housing, and a secure campus, with students consistently achieving exceptional results, often ranking in the 96th percentile on national exams. Yet, a critical daily challenge remains: the school kitchen still relies on traditional wood-fired cooking to prepare meals for all students.

Every day, children must spend valuable time and energy collecting firewood, diverting them from learning and play while placing strain on the local environment and the school’s operations. Nyumbu Foundation, in association with Nyumbu Luxury Collection, is stepping forward to change this. We plan to fund and install two modern bio-gas digesters specifically for the school kitchen.

This sustainable upgrade will:

  • Eliminate the need for firewood collection, freeing students to focus fully on their education.
  • Provide a reliable, clean, and efficient energy source for daily meal preparation.
  • Significantly improve kitchen infrastructure, enhance food safety and nutrition, and support the academy’s ability to feed all 281 children sustainably.
  • Reduce deforestation and smoke-related health issues, aligning with broader environmental and community benefits in this rural Maasai heartland.

Your support will directly transform daily life at Promise Village Academy, allowing these bright young Maasai learners to thrive without the burden of survival tasks. By investing in clean energy infrastructure, we’re not just feeding bodies—we’re nourishing minds and futures.

Together with Nyumbu Luxury Collection’s commitment to responsible tourism and community upliftment in Tanzania, this project represents a powerful partnership for lasting impact. Join us in building a brighter, more sustainable tomorrow for the children of Simanjiro. Every contribution counts—help power Promise Village Academy today.

Project 2

Promise Academy Mosquito Net Project

Protecting Maasai children’s health and education:

Fund Mosquito Nets for Promise Village Academy in the heart of rural Tanzania’s Simanjiro region—just outside the traditional Maasai village of Lenjani—Promise Village Academy stands as a beacon of hope and opportunity.

This privately funded school educates 283 Maasai children from Pre-K through 7th grade in a secure, nurturing environment that includes 10 modern classrooms and a 200-bed student dormitory. Since opening in 2019, the academy has delivered exceptional academic outcomes, with students ranking in the 96th percentile on national exams, while providing clean water, nutritious meals, and a stable home away from generational poverty.

However, a critical health challenge threatens the well-being of the boarding students: the school currently faces a funding shortfall for sufficient long-lasting insecticide-treated mosquito nets. In this malaria-endemic area of Simanjiro, inadequate protection leaves children vulnerable to mosquito-borne illness at night—potentially causing missed school days, reduced learning, and serious health risks.

Nyumbu Foundation, in association with Nyumbu Luxury Collection, is committed to closing this gap. We aim to fund the purchase and distribution of personal mosquito nets for every boarding child.

Completing this campaign will ensure the following:

  • Every boarding student has their own high-quality, protective net.
  • Improved health and safety in the 200-bed dormitory, reducing malaria incidence.
  • Fewer disruptions to education, allowing these bright Maasai learners to continue thriving academically and personally.
  • A healthier, more resilient school community in one of Tanzania’s most remote regions.

Your generous support will directly safeguard the futures of these 283 children, enabling them to sleep safely, stay healthy, and focus fully on their studies. By providing this essential protection, we’re not just preventing disease—we’re protecting potential.

In partnership with Nyumbu Luxury Collection—a proudly Tanzanian, indigenously owned luxury safari company dedicated to responsible tourism and community upliftment—this project creates meaningful, sustainable impact in the Simanjiro heartland.
